Desperate Edinburgh locals spotted crowding outside Currys PC World to buy PS5

Edinburgh locals have been pictured crowding outside a branch of Currys PC World at Fort Kinnaird.

Several members of staff at the store recently tested positive for Covid-19.

Despite First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's plea that people living in Scotland should take caution when visiting non essential shops, pictures emerged on social media showing large queues forming outside the tech specialist, with locals seemingly desperate to get their hands on the new PS5 console.

It comes as one of Scotland's top health advisors Prof Devi Sridhar warned people about the dangers of letting their guard down this festive season.

She wrote on Twitter: "Do you want to expose the people you love to this virus? Do you want to be responsible for the virus spreading at your home, or as a guest in someone else's? If you don't, be cautious. Don't need govt to tell you that. It's common sense."

One miffed local shared the picture on Twitter penning: "But people still needed to queue this morning for a new PlayStation (or catch a virus while waiting) at an #Edinburgh retail outlet! Essential shopping? #COVID19 #christmasshopping."

The news comes as East Lothian and Midlothian residents were banned from non-essential shopping at Fort Kinnaird under travel restrictions which permits people from travelling in and out of council tiers for no good reason.
