Desperate appeal to find missing boy who ran away from grandparents in Aldi

A frantic search was launched to find an eight-year-old boy who vanished while shopping with his grandparents.

Jack Moss disappeared at an Aldi supermarket in Gateshead, and a police helicopter was called in to help with the search.

The schoolboy disappeared at around 3.10pm, when he ran away, Northumbria Police said.

He was later found in Newcastle city centre, police said.

Force Operational Manager, Mick Hall, said:

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and assisted us in our search for Jack this afternoon.

“It was a call from a member of the public which led our officers to Jack - now we can get him home safely.”

In a statement earlier today, the force said: "Jack Moss was reported missing earlier this afternoon after running away from his grandparents at the Aldi supermarket in Dunston.

"The eight-year-old schoolboy was last seen at about 3.10pm this afternoon but he is from the Washington area and does not know the Dunston area.

"We do not believe he is in any immediate danger but we are growing increasingly concerned about his welfare the longer he remains missing."
