Designers all set for second Perthshire market

Designers, artists and makers will once again be flogging their wares at a summer design market.

The second Perthshire Create’s summer design market will be held on Saturday, June 22 and this year will be spread over two venues, as so many local designers are wanting to take part.

It will be run at Perth Museum and Art Gallery and the civic hall at 2 High Street, meaning the market will be almost double the size of last year’s inaugural event, showcasing 52 different artists and designers.

The designers will come from all over the area, including Perth, Milnathort, Crieff, Scone, Blairgowrie, Comrie, Dunkeld and Dundee.

Visitors will get the opportunity to meet the maker in person and shop for unique gifts, homewares and accessories.

Several new artists will also be taking part, including Andrea Gardiner, who graduated from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art last year. She creates jewellery inspired by her mixed Mexican and Scottish heritage.

Anna Kelso, an illustrator creating patterned prints after completing the Perth-based Elevator UK Accelerator business programme, will also be there.

Other designers to look out for at the market include Sarah Halliday, whose artwork features popular Perthshire street scenes, Kate McLaughlin, who uses her background in architecture to create bold and simple silver jewellery, Kirsty Dalton, who creates contemporary wooden works using traditional wood turning methods and carving, McLluminati, who creates items made from recycled and salvaged materials, and Ceri White, whose richly patterned, contemporary ceramics are made from a workshop in rural Perthshire.

Caron Ironside, project officer for Perthshire Creates, said: “We’re delighted that due to the increased number of talented artists and designers wanting an opportunity to showcase their work, we’ve been able to extend our second summer design market across two venues this year.

“The design market is an excellent opportunity to meet the artists in person and enjoy their varied work and find something different and often unique.”

Many of the artists taking part have also donated a selection of the work as raffle prizes on the day to raise funds for Culture Perth and Kinross.

The market is open from 10am until 4.30pm, and entry is free.
