Designer brand Michael Kors has closed its Cabot Circus store

Bristol city centre has suffered another retail casualty with the closure of a high end designer shop.

Back in 2017 the management of Michael Kors announced they were on the verge of closing over 100 stores worldwide after sales plummeted.

And sadly for the discerning fashionistas of Bristol, the renowned brand's branch in Philadelphia Street, Quakers Friars, is one of the outlets to get the chop.

Craig Carter, interim general manager at Cabot Circus, said: “While Michael Kors closed in February, fans of the retailer can still find the brand in the House of Fraser store in Cabot Circus.

"We're always looking at ways to bring new retail experiences to the people of Bristol, and we’ll keep people updated on our plans for the unit."

The brand was launched in the early 1980’s by the eponymous fashion designer and former Project Runway judge, who opened a wealth of stores across the globe to be at the forefront of the 'handbag boom'.

As well as luxury handbags the company's stores sell women's clothing, shoes and accessories.

But after a sustained period of success, its bubble seems to have somewhat burst in recent years, as highlighted by the dip in sales and closure of around 15 per cent of its stores worldwide.
