The trade the Cleveland Browns made for Deshaun Watson continues to complicate the franchise’s competitive picture. On Wednesday morning, the team announced that Watson will undergo season-ending surgery on a shoulder injury he suffered in the first quarter of Cleveland’s 33-31 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s a rough go for the Browns, who have fielded a top-tier defense for most of the season. They’ll now have to muddle through without their franchise quarterback and starting running back Nick Chubb, who was lost for the season in Week 2.
Watson played through the shoulder fracture against the Ravens, completing 20 of 34 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a passer rating of 74.8.
P.J. Walker is expected to take Watson’s place, which he’s done before this season as Watson has dealt with multiple injuries.
