Deshaun Watson envisions Texans offense being ‘explosive’

The Houston Texans finished 2018 with the 11th highest scoring offense in the NFL, hardly a stat worth screaming about.

With a total of 402 points to their name, they showed great promise at times, but a sub par offensive line hampered a lackluster run game and injuries to their receivers was a handicap for the majority of the season.

However, with offensive line additions, a healthy RB D’Onta Foreman, WR Keke Coutee, and WR Will Fuller to enter 2019, things are looking up, according to quarterback Deshaun Watson.

“I think an offense that is very explosive, that whoever is touching the ball on each possession can make something happen,” Watson told the media after the first day of minicamp Tuesday. “We’re all confident that we’re going to be on the same page, great chemistry, have some fun and try to light up the scoreboard as much as we can.”

One player, in particular, has the skill set to raise this offense up a level in slot receiver Keke Coutee. A shifty and quick receiver, he is coming back from a nasty hamstring injury that halted much of his progress in 2018. Thankfully, throughout his time at Texas Tech he was consistently available and healthy, so the Texans will be hoping he has recaptured this reliability.

The fourth-round pick from 2018, who appeared in just six games due to a chronic hamstring injury, could give the Texans another dimension, according to the Pro Bowl signal caller.

Said Watson: “It gives us another option, another weapon, another [person] that the defense has to try to defend. He’s a guy that can be very explosive with the ball in his hands and can cause a lot of problems for different defenses.”

If Coutee, Fuller, and DeAndre Hopkins can indeed stay healthy this year, combined with a supposedly improved offensive line, this Texans team could find themselves in a few highlight reels as the season progresses.
