Deserted City Bypass and M8 images show Edinburgh folk are following lockdown orders

We reckon these images of the City Bypass and M8 looking totally deserted are a decent indication of how closely Edinburgh folk are following government lockdown orders.

Traffic Scotland shared images of a number of key routes on social media earlier today (Saturday), and we have to admit we've never quite seen these roads like this before.

Just one car could be seen on the M8 at Bathgate around 12.30pm, while an image captured at 12.08pm showed absolutely no traffic on the City Bypass at Hermiston Gait.

Only a handful of cars could be seen near Dreghorn and at Gilmerton, while the Sheriffhall roundabout was also looking extremely quiet.

While out on their daily walk, people in Edinburgh have been sharing images of the normally bustling city streets looking totally empty.

Author Ian Rankin was among those to tweet pictures of the city looking deserted.

Edinburgh Live reported on Friday how far fewer fines have been issued for lockdown breaches in the Scottish capital than elsewhere in Scotland.

Police Scotland figures show that just four fines were dished out in Edinburgh between March 27 and April 1, while 46 were handed out in Greater Glasgow and 20 in the North East. 17 fines were issued in Lanarkshire and 18 in Ayrshire.
