DeSean Jackson to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle with custom cleats this season

DeSean Jackson is returning to Philadelphia to play for the Eagles, but he’ll have Los Angeles close to his heart this season as he pays tribute to a fallen friend. Jackson took to Instagram to announce that he’d be playing custom cleats this season, in honor of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was shot in killed at the age of 33 just a month ago.

Jackson posted pictures of the cleats on his Instagram account, with the caption, “‘Lock us behind gates but can’t tame us.’ Used to be stay safe, now it’s stay dangerous.”

Jackson had the shoes done by Marcus Rivero of Soles By Sir, and according to TMZ Sports, which spoke with Rivero, Jackson plans to wear the shoes every game, thus likely earning a fine for each outing. The NFL only allows custom cleats to be worn in games during its “My Cause, My Cleats” period.

Both Jackson and Hussle grew up in the Crenshaw section of Los Angeles.
