No More Robots and RageSquid have released Descenders Next, the follow-up to their popular downhill biking game. It’s available now on Steam and Xbox for $29.99 and it’s also included with Game Pass.
This time around the action expands beyond bikes with snowboarding and mountainboarding leading the way. The goal is to grow Descenders Next into a full-on extreme sports hub with more disciplines planned down the line.
After the original Descenders pulled in over 35 million players, the team began thinking about where to take things next. They wanted to keep the speed and flow that made the first game click but move beyond a single sport. That led to the idea of building something more versatile—something that captures the feel of multiple high-adrenaline activities while still staying true to the original game’s momentum.
Snowboarding and mountainboarding each bring a distinct style. Snowboarding is smoother and more fluid, while mountainboarding feels heavier and more rugged. Players will need to adjust their approach depending on the terrain, learning the ins and outs of each sport as they go. There’s already plenty to dig into, with online multiplayer, big biomes to explore and a tricks system that rewards creativity. Reputation points earned during rides can be used to unlock new boards, helmets, outfits and more.
The world itself mixes procedurally generated trails with hand-crafted parks, creating a more connected and natural-feeling environment. Off-piste paths weave into tighter park sections, keeping each run unpredictable. Some sessions will focus on racing to the bottom with friends, others on landing clean tricks. Scavenger hunts encourage deeper exploration with hidden rewards scattered across the mountain for those willing to look.
