Des Plaines man pleads guilty to fatally stabbing ex-girlfriend

Victor Tornez-Sanchez stabbed his ex-girlfriend on June 18, 2017 after she returned home from a date with her new boyfriend, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Victor Tornez-Sanchez, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of first degree murder, the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said.

A Des Plaines man pleaded guilty Friday to stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death outside her home in northwest suburban Bensenville.

On the night of June 18, 2017, Tornez-Sanchez waited in a vehicle outside his former girlfriend’s home in the 700 block of Parkside Lane while she was on a date with her new boyfriend, according to the state’s attorney’s office. When she arrived home just before 9:30 p.m., Tornez-Sanchez jumped out of his car and stabbed her three times in the chest, side and arm.

Tornez-Sanchez was taken into custody the next day in Elgin, the state’s attorney’s office said. He has been held in DuPage County Jail ever since on $2.5 million bond.

“This morning, Victor Tornez-Sanchez took responsibility for the murder of his former girlfriend,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “His admission of guilt however, will not bring [her] back to those who loved her. Hopefully, with Mr. Tornez-Sanchez’s guilty plea, [her] family and friends will find themselves one step closer to closure in this horrible chapter of their lives.”

In return for Tornez-Sanchez’s guilty plea, the State has agreed to cap its sentencing recommendation to 60 years, the state’s attorney’s office said. He is due in court for a pre-sentence report on July 1.
