Derry work colleagues to go great heights to raise money for "innovative space" to help kids with complex needs

A group of work friends are set to face their fears next month to try and help children with complex needs.

The pals, who work at ASpace2 in Derry's Campsie, will complete an abseil at the Tower Museum on Sunday, June 12.

Aspace2 is a community interest group based in Campsie, which has existing multisensory rooms and has been operating since 2014 offering services to people from the North West.

Employees at the centre said that the current demand to use their services "currently outstrips demand", with the aim now to develop a second room to help more people - including adults - with their needs.

The local group have started a fundraising marathon and recently held a fundraising ball at the Waterfoot Hotel in the city.

A spokesperson for ASpace2 said: "Multisensory Room Two (MS2) will be an additional 100sqm multisensory experience within our centre.

"The new innovative space will offer a flexible environment for the user, families, carers, therapists and teachers.

"The centre is staffed with a team of professionals who have extensive knowledge, skills and experience working with children and adults with autism, global development delay, PMLD and those with sensory processing disorders.

"Our aim is to raise £500,000 to help with the development of MS2. It will be such a valuable space for many, providing such a safe, fun and inclusive experience."
