Derry shopping centre acquired by local developers

A Derry shopping centre has recently been acquired by local developers.

The Richmond Centre had gone into receivership in June but an agreement was reached and the three-level shopping centre has been taken over by Derry based Martin Property Group.

The shopping centre comprises of over 40 retail units in over 150,000 square foot of space, with prime occupiers including JD Sports, New Look, Trespass, Bon Marché and Cafe Nero.

The shopping centre sees an annual footfall in excess of 6.2 million.

The property firm stated they were "delighted" to have reached agreement on the local shopping centre, building on its potential to breathe new life into the heart of the city.

Numerous high street closures as well as the trying times of the pandemic have made development incredibly difficult.

The Martin Property Group said: "We are delighted to have acquired The Richmond Shopping Centre, Derry, Northern Ireland in the last couple of days and add it to our other major acquisitions this year across the UK and Ireland.

"With the help of our fantastic legal team Gareth Planck and Corrina Cassidy at Eversheds Sutherland we exchanged unconditionally in 5 days and completed 2 days thereafter.

"We have spent around £100M this year on new acquisitions and have further appetite in 2022 to add to our growing portfolio."
