Derry's Foyle Bridge reopens after crash involving cyclist causes long delay during morning rush hour

The Foyle Bridge has reopened following a road traffic collision on Thursday morning.

It is believed thatthe crash, between a car and a cyclist, happened on the citybound lane on the bridge after 8am on Thursday.

The lane remained closed for a period of time and motorists experienced long delays on the Caw Roundabout.

Police attended the scene and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Pictures from the scene showed long tailbacks on the Foyle Bridge, Crescent Link and Craigavon Bridge during rush hour in the city.

A spokesperson said: "The Foyle Bridge has now re-opened following an earlier collision."

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they had also dispatched crews to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "NIAS despatched one emergency crew to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was takento  Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry."
