A Derry photographer has turned his talent for capturing candid street portraits into a new collection based on the people he meets around the city.
Declan Dillon, 33, has been taking photographs for several years and wanted to share them with a wider audience.
He set up an Instagram account for these street portraits called 'StorytelleroftheStreet'.
Declan spoke to MyDerry about the reaction that he has had on his photography series.
When asked how the idea of focusing on street portraits came about, he said: " I am a people person, I love talking to people.
"You never know who might need a chat. It is a good way of building a connection on the street."
Declan's series contains an eclectic mix of portraits, from business owners to buskers, to passers by.
Declan said: "People's characters just shine through. One of my favourite shots is of a lady who climbs mountains. She had so much character in her face."
Expanding on social media success, Declan hopes to make photography into a career.
He said: "It would be good to have my photos in an exhibition or make a book at some point. I would like to also teach people how to take street portraits.
In the process of taking the portraits, Declan strives to make subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera.
He added: "Some people can be surprised at the outcome if they are shy or unconfident in front of a camera. I want to make sure they are pleased with how the photos come out.
"It feels exciting when I capture someone's character in a street portrait. It is a challenge to approach people on the street but good having a chat and getting to know people.
"It is a nice feeling giving compliments and a good photo."
Declan does not solely focus on portraits and has a separate social media account dedicated to landscapes.
