Derry Girls star to appear on Joanna Lumley's Northern Ireland-based episode of Home Sweet Home

Joanna Lumley's Home Sweet Home series, in which the presenter makes personal journeys throughout the UK, sees her travel to Northern Ireland on this week's episode.

The second episode of the three part series sees Joanna visit the Dark Hedges in Co Antrim, made famous in Game of Thrones, as part of an experience with well known NI tour specialist 'Flip'.

On top of that, Joanna also travels to Derry to meet with Saoirse Monica-Jackson, star of Derry Girls.

She then meets Richard Moore, the inspiring founder of the Children in Crossfire charity, who was blinded by a rubber bullet when he was 10 years old.

Chatting with him, she finds out how a new generation is working to break down old barriers.

Speaking about her travels to Northern Ireland in this episode, Joanna said: "To go over to Derry and meet Saoirse-Monica Jackson from the Derry Girls, that extraordinarily popular, incredibly funny and poignant series that came out of Northern Ireland, I just adored that.

"And it was a privilege to walk with Richard Moore, the Great Derry Lama. He is somebody who I have known and admired for some time.

"He was blinded when he was only ten-years-old, by a rubber bullet, during The Troubles, and he’s gone on to make a huge success of his life. He’s set up a thing called Children in Crossfire which is a charity set up to look after children who have been injured in wartime."

Speaking about the series as a whole, Joanna added: “I seem to have spent a lifetime travelling the world, but as I get older, I realise there’s so much of my own country I haven’t seen. So, I decided that using my traveller’s eyes… I’m going to turn that vision onto this country, the place that I now call home.”

Home Sweet Home is on ITV at 8pm, Tuesday February 9.
