Derry Girls star says that Season 3 will be the best one yet

For those that want to hear some cracker news, Season 3 of Derry Girls is definitely happening. However, much like Uncle Colm's stories that depress everyone and suck the fun out of the room, production on the new season has been delayed due to COVID.

Originally, the cast and crew of Lisa McGee's superb comedy were due to film the new episodes this year but production was halted due to the pandemic.

However, McGee has finished the scripts and during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight - Canada, Nicola Coughlan (Clare) gave an insight about what fans can expect to see.

"It's written and ready to go, we're just waiting for the green light when it's all COVID safe. I already know all of the storylines and I'm so excited. Genuinely - and I'm not just saying this - I think it will be the best one. I'm so excited," said Coughlan.

Fans of the Galway actress will be delighted to know that she's also starring in Netflix's new period drama, Bridgerton.

In terms of the plot synopsis, Bridgerton revolves around "wealth, lust, and betrayal set in the backdrop of Regency-era England, seen through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family" and it has already earned some impressive reviews.

However, fear not because Coughlan will be reprising her beloved role as Clare Devlin in Derry Girls and during another told interview with The Guardian, she elaborated on what fans can expect in Season 3.

"I'm not allowed to say anything about the scripts, but they're just phenomenal. She's a proper genius, Lisa is. Now I just really want to go and do it, and we can't!", she said.

The show's writer/creator Lisa McGee has previously said that she's like to incorporate the signature of the Good Friday Agreement into the plot and during a chat with Ray D'arcy, McGee said that when compared to Seasons 1 and 2, the new episodes are "quite ambitious" with more "big set pieces"

"It's written. We're all ready to go. Season 3 is quite ambitious but we had to push back filming it, we're trying to line it all up again. So, we're working that out now. We're all just dying to get back now, we all miss it and we miss each other. So, as soon as we can we will.

"We didn't want to compromise the show because the filming restrictions were quite strict. It would have been impossible to film it when we were supposed to. Hopefully, we won't be waiting too long. Season 3 is quite ambitious. It is a little show but we want to really push what we can do. Series 3 we've lots of big set pieces and we really want to go for it. Hopefully, we can do that as soon as it's possible," she said.

Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix from Christmas Day.
