Derry Girls star pops into Glasgow beer garden Brel for a swally in the sun

One of the stars of hit Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls has taken to doing what many of us love when the sun's out in the city - heading to one of Glasgow's beer gardens for a swally.

Actress Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, known for her hilarious role as Michelle Mallon in the coming-of-age comedy enjoyed the cracking weather and said sláinte at Brel in the west end's Ashton Lane last night.

The 29-year-old is in Glasgow for filming of new Channel 4 prison drama Screw, a six part show by BAFTA-nominated writer Rob Williams (The Victim, Killing Eve), which is described as "prison as never seen before".

She will be joined on screen by a cast including the likes of Nina Sosanya (His Dark Materials), Faraz Ayub (Line of Duty, Bodyguard), Stephen Wight (I May Destroy You) and Ron Donachie (Game of Thrones).

Channel 4 say the six-part drama from STV Studios shows the "uncensored, shocking and often darkly funny reality of life as a prison officer in an all-male prison in 21st century Britain".

Caroline Hollick, Channel 4 Head of Drama, said: "Screw offers the audience an insight in to the challenges and struggles faced behind bars for both prisoners and officers; told with humour, humanity and hope.

"I’m so excited for our brilliant, distinctive cast, led by the superlative Nina Sosanya, and I hope Jamie-Lee O’Donnell’s dramatic new role will her see fast becoming an iconic face of Channel 4."
