Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan gets 'lucky escape' after concrete block crashes through her flat ceiling

Irish actress Nicola Coughlan was left shaken after a concrete block came crashing through the ceiling of her flat.

The Derry Girls star said she got a "lucky escape" after the deadly block fell from her ceiling "seconds after I’d been standing under it".

The 34-year-old took to Twitter to share shocking images of the damage done to her flat following the incident hitting out at estate agent Portico in the process.

She wrote: "So last night a concrete block crashed through my ceiling seconds after I’d been standing under it @porticoprop are now refusing to send an engineer in to check that the building is structurally sound before I go back in and told me if I want one I have to pay for it."

The star explained the frightening fault was caused by a plumbing issue.

She continued saying: "[The block] is the width of my bath and weighs about 15lbs. As I said I had an extreme lucky escape"

The Galway woman further hit out at the  London-based estate agents saying, "It was so f***ing scary I can’t explain, I’m still totally shaken by it and @PorticoProp refusing to check the building is safe is such a slap in the face.

"I’m a good tenant, I pay my rent on time and I had nothing to do with causing this issue but they're refusing to take action".

She added: "It takes so much for me to call a company out publicly but @PorticoProp this is truly disgraceful I’m frightened to go back to the flat I pay you rent for and you won’t have a proper person come and check it’s safe"

In her final update on the situation, Coughlan said the company has since contacted her and agreed to send a charterer surveyor to check the safety of her flat.

She wrote: "I’m happy to deal with all future correspondences with them privately and regret this had to be made public at all"

The frightening comes following some recent bad luck experienced by one of her Derry Girls co-stars.

Siobhan McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael in the Channel 4 series warned against using cube plugs after one at her bedside sparked a devastating blaze in her flat.
