Derry Girls star has typically brilliant reaction to crucial England goal in Euros semi final

One of the stars of Derry Girls had a typically brilliant reaction to a crucial England goal during Wednesday night's Euro 2020 semi final with Denmark.

Siobhán McSweeney is a proud Corkwoman and has joked in the past about never truly wanting or needing to leave the Rebel County.

But the host of The Great Pottery Throw Down on Channel 4 has found herself based in London in recent years.

And London was a fun place to be on Wednesday evening as the Three Lions navigated their way into their first major final in 55 years thanks to an own goal and a penalty from star striker Harry Kane.

Siobhán was watching the game with friend and Labour Party councillor Kevin Brady.

And it's safe to say she channelled the spirit of Sister Michael, who she portrays in Derry Girls , when the English equaliser went in.

That was the face of thousands of Irish people across the world we'd imagine - although over a quarter of them are actually supporting Gareth Southgate's men.

Siobhán herself responded to the tweet with a quick explanation: "HE SAID WE WERE GOING TO DINNER!".

England had fallen behind to a Mikkel Damsgaard free kick after half an hour, but were level within ten minutes after Simon Kjaer turned the ball into his own net.

There were no further goals in the 90 minutes, sending the game to extra time, where England dominated against a tired Danish defence.

Eventually, the breakthrough came when Raheem Sterling was adjudged to have been fouled in the box by both the on-field ref and the VAR official.

Kane actually saw his penalty beaten away by Kasper Schmeichel - but the ball fell right back into his path, allowing him to smash it to the net and send England fans into raptures.
