Siobhan McSweeney, also known as Sister Michael from hit show Derry Girls, has just completed her Exploring Northern Ireland series, the last episode of which aired on Thursday, September 2.
In this, we were shown amazing cultural aspects of Northern Ireland, linking our ancient history to today. Siobhan followed the pilgrim paths of St. Patrick's Way, and visited the ancient monuments of Lough Erne.
The series has shown off the natural landscape of Northern Ireland, and of its many walkways and hiking points, including Fermanagh's Stairway to Heaven.
Although Siobhan often did not get the weather to appreciate the views from the top of these trails, it did not take away from their magnificence.
Above all, it has been the humour that has shone through every episode of Exploring Northern Ireland. Siobhan has encapsulated the warmth and hospitable nature of all she met in her four-episode travels.
Siobhan McSweeney has taken her viewers across all corners of Northern Ireland, and visits the city of Derry in the final segment of the series finale.
She describes how Derry has always been somewhere close to her heart, even before joining the Derry Girls cast. Siobhan is taken around the city walls by Charlene McCrossan, the youngest ever blue badge holding tour guide.
On her visit, Siobhan describes Derry as one of the most open and friendly places ever, encouraging visitors to visit the city and feel its vibrancy for themselves.
The series has been a fantastic advertisement for Northern Ireland. Even natives of Northern Ireland will have picked somewhere as a place to visit in the future.
Every episode of Siobhan McSweeney's Exploring Northern Ireland has been a joy to watch and wind down to. It is a shining light in turbulent times.
