Derry Girls legend Grandad Joe is coming to Leeds this summer and you can meet him

A star of the hit Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls is coming to Leeds for a special event this summer.

Leeds Comic-Con will be happening at New Dock Hall, Royal Armouries Museum, on Sunday, June 5 - and Derry Girls star Ian McElhinney, known as Granda Joe, is on the line up.

Other main guests at the star-studed event include Paul McGann who played the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who. Also appearing will be Patricia Quinn, who not only appeared in Doctor Who but portrayed Magenta in the cult classic film Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Away from Derry Girls, Ian McElhinney is known as General Dodonna in Star Wars film Rogue One, Val-El in Krypton and as Ser Barristan Selmy in Game of Thrones. As well as big-name guests, there will also chance to get photos at some of film's most iconic sets and scenes.

You can draw upon the Force as you sit outside of Yoda’s Hut and experience what you would look like as a Grand Master of the Jedi Order. You can also experience the thrills like an Endor Scout Trooper as you sit on a speeder bike. From there you enter the world of DC as you claim ‘I’m Batman!’ as you pose on The Dark Knight’s Batpod.

Of course, those attending are encouraged to don their very best cosplay outfits. As well as guests and attractions there will be stalls selling lots of collectables and memorabilia. Sharon Hall, of Unleashed Events, who organise the event, said: “We are so pleased to be back in New Dock Hall at the Royal Armouries.

“We are bringing with us some amazing guests and attractions along with a host of geeky traders. It’s a great place to meet up with people who are interested in the same ‘geeky’ things that you are. No matter what your age, if you come along in costume or not, or simply there to meet the guests or even just want to see what a comic-con is all about, you are sure to have a great time at Leeds Comic-Con.”

You’ll be able to pay entrance to the event on the door. You can find out more by visiting the Unleashed Events website.
