Derry Girls final season gets release date within weeks as we get first look at new episode

The final season of Derry Girls will start on April 12 - with Channel 4 releasing a first look at one of the episodes on Wednesday afternoon.

The four friends ( and the wee English fella) will be back on our screens next month as the hit show, written by Lisa McGee, wraps up its run after three successful seasons.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin), Nicola Coughlan (Clare), Jamie-Lee O'Donnell (Michelle), Louisa Harland (Orla) and Dylan Llewellyn (James) have gone through a lot in the first two seasons and find themselves in more both going off the sneak peek at one of the episodes.

It has been three years since series two aired on Channel 4, and if you want to avoid any spoilers, look away now!

Season two saw James decide to stay in the Northern city being accepted as an honorary "Derry Girl".

He joins the crew in a video rental shop (remember those!) in the first glimpse, which you can see above.

Meanwhile, Nicola Coughlan has she’s ‘devastated’ as she revealed she was ‘written out’ of Derry Girls due to a schedule clash with Bridgerton.

The Galway born star first shot to fame as Clare on the comedy five years ago.

But she said that whilst it is 'amazing' to be part of two of the biggest shows of the moment, she revealed the past year was filled with ‘tears and stress’ as she tried to juggle filming commitments for the final season in Derry, with filming calls for the Netflix hit in the UK.

“Last year was super stressful when it came to it,” she admitted.

"We were meant to film Derry Girls in January and then they decided to push it to the end of the year and I was like on contract with Bridgerton, like ‘guys, I have to go’.

“So it was very stressful. Because I was like am I able to do both and there was tears and stress.
