Derry Girls has today received a BAFTA nomination, ahead of the 2020 Awards show.
The hit Northern Irish show was nominated in the 'Best Scripted Comedy' category, where it will go up against shows like Fleabag, Catastrophe and Stath Lets Flats.
The full list of nominations were announced this morning by the British Academy.
This marks the second time that Derry Girls has been up for a BAFTA. The show's first series narrowly lost out to Sally4Ever at the 2019 awards.
The news was met with joy from the cast and writers of the show this morning.
Nicola Coughlan, who plays 'Wee Clare Devlin', took to Twitter to share her delight at the news, writing: "Not every day you wake up to a @BAFTA nomination is it? So proud of the whole Derry Girls fam it means so much thank you"
Show creator Lisa McGee also expressed her thanks, writing: "Hugely honoured. Thank you @BAFTA "
The news comes just days after Nicola Coughlan revealed details about when Derry Girls might be back on our screens for a third season.
Speaking on Angela Scanlon's Thanks A Million podcast, the actress said: "We were meant to start filming around now.
"We made the second series back in 2018, so it's been a long time since we've been together filming."
She continued: "But filming has been put on hold for now which sucks, and we're all really excited to go back and start again and see the scripts because we actually haven't."
She also added: "There’s tentative dates when we hope to go back but we don’t really know at the minute."
Winners of the 2020 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards will be revealed on Friday 31 July.
