Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee "definitely" interested in movie adaptation of hit TV series

Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has confirmed that the popular TV series could be set for its debut on the big screen.

The Derry-born writer said the potential for a movie adaptation was something she'd like to "explore".

In a recent interview with Red Carpet News TV, Lisa was coy to give too much away but confirmed that a Derry Girls movie could be in the pipeline "at some point".

She said: "It's definitely something we are talking about and it's something I would like to explore.

"It's just about making sure the story is right so it's about me figuring all of that out at some point."

The show was a hit with audiences in the UK and Ireland, and has been met with praise across the world after airing on Netflix.

And the Channel 4 show is set to hit our TV screens again later this year with the writer giving some hints as to what viewers can expect.

Lisa added: "There's definitely a very personal journey that they [main characters in Derry Girls] go on, as well as a political one.

“It's an exciting time for them as they're just on the cusp of adulthood.

"There's lots of new guest characters, as always.

"In every episode, we have a new big guest star come in. That's really exciting, writing those.

"That has been good craic, looking forward to shooting all of that."
