Derry dog whose owner has gone into care, needs help too

A dog rescue charity is asking for help after taking in a dog who's owner has gone into care only to discover the dog also has medical issues.

Their usual check on up Gerri the Springer Spaniel discovered a lump at his tummy and now vets have started investigations.

He is being cared for by the team at Friends of Rescue in Derry, who have found him a loving foster home until his medical needs are addressed.

A spokesperson for the group said: "This handsome boy is Gerri and he is a seven-year-old Springer Spaniel. Gerri has come to us after his owner sadly had to go into a home.

Bewildered by his change in circumstances, Gerri, 7 (Friends of Rescue)

"So as you can imagine Gerri is a little unsure of his new life but he is doing so well.

"When he first arrived at our vets we noticed he had a lump on his abdomen we thought it was bladder related but once he emptied his bladder it was still there.

"A scan of his kidneys showed there was something and he is now on meds for a urinary tract infection, and he had had a sample of urine and bloods taken and they have been sent off to the lab to find out what's going on with him.

"Gerri is settling into foster with his amazing spaniel loving family who have given him a lovely soft seat to recover."

With vets bills mounting at all dog rescue groups, Friends of Rescue say they are always grateful for any donation.

"A spokesperson said: "To help us with our ever rising vet bills below are a few ways you can help us by donating directly to our vets Vets4Pets Crescent Link in person or via phone 028 7131 4420.
