Derry dog ended up in Co Down after hitching a ride in a van

A little old dog has turned up in Co Down after apparently hitching a lift in a van which had been parked in Derry.

The ginger and white terrier, was dropped off at a veterinary surgery in Hillsborough on Monday and has since been taken to dog kennels at Nutts Corner.

An animal welfare group say they hope enough publicity will alert the rightful owner to the dog's whereabouts.

The dog appears to be a Jack Russell or Parson Russell cross and if you know who owns this pet or recognise it, please contact Lost and Found North Down by clicking here.

The group is designed to help reunite lost or found pets in the Newtownards, Comber, Dundonald and North Down areas.

A spokesperson said: "Please share this information and let's get this wee one home."

The group's tips on things to do to reduce the risk of losing your dog

  • Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and tag at all times, with its address and contact number on.
  • Make sure your dog is micro-chipped.
  • Make sure all the details held by the micro-chipping company are up to date. If you are not sure, ask your vet to check for you.
