Derry City striker Adam Liddle set for showdown with Leicester City star James Maddison

Derry City striker Adam Liddle will go toe-to-toe with Leicester City star James Maddison in a charity FIFA tournament.

The pair are competing in the StayInterToto Cup which is aimed at raising money for the NHS.

Liddle, on loan with the Candy Stripes from English Championship club Reading, has impressed so far in the tournament, winning both of his opening Group D fixtures.

Next up in th virtual gaming competition is Leicester and England star Maddison.

The inaugural event involves 64 professional footballers and teams from across Europe including Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend, Leeds United's Patrick Bamford and Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster.

It tournament includes 16 groups of four teams, with Derry City drawn in Group D alongside Leicester, Stoke City and Livingston.

Liddle hammered Livingston 5-0 before seeing off Stoke City's Belgian midfielder Thibaud Verlinden, coming from 3-1 down to claim a dramatic late victory.

His clash with Maddison takes place at 9.30pm tonight (Thursday) to see who will top the group.

All money raised will support NHS staff who working tirelessly to help combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
