Derry City sign Ibrahim Meite and Jake Dunwoody on deals until the end of the season

Derry City have strengthened their squad with two more signings ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

Former Cardiff City striker Ibrahim Meite and Northern Ireland Under-21 international Jake Dunwoody have agreed deals until the end of the season.

Meite was most recently with Crawley Town and joined Bulgarian side OFC Pirin Blagoevgrad days before the lockdown in March.

But Candystripes boss Declan Devine has pounced for the free agent and he said: “Ibrahim was signed by Neil Warnock for Cardiff City.

“He’s very strong, very direct and is exactly what we need. He is somebody to lead the line.”

Dunwoody - a former Manchester City youth - has spent the last five years at Stoke City and Devine signed him after a chat with Ian Baraclolugh.

Baraclough was in charge of Northern Ireland’s Under-21s before succeeding Michael O’Neill in the senior job.

Devine said: “I’ve known Jake for a while in the Northern Ireland setup. He’s quality and I’m really looking forward to seeing him playing.

“Ian Baraclough thinks it’s a great idea for him to play at that standard with Derry City. He gives us great options in the middle of the park.”

Last week, Derry signed striker James Akintunde from Maidenhead United and  experienced English winger Adam Hammill, once a product of Liverpool.

The Candystripes resume their Premier Division campaign with a home clash against Sligo Rovers on Friday (5.45pm).
