Derry City seal deal for Norwegian striker Tim Andre Nilsen

Norwegian striker Tim Andre Nilsen has signed for Derry City ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old arrives from Fredrikstad where he bagged 32 goals in 53 appearances and he also had spells in Sweden and Russia.

Nilsen was training with the Candystripes in recent weeks and scored twice in Wednesday’s pre-season win over Finn Harps.

Derry boss Declan Devine was in the market for new attackers as last season’s top scorers Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe and David Parkhouse were only on loan.

They finished first and fourth respectively in the 2019 Premier Division scoring charts with 14 and 11 league goals.

But the pair have since returned to their parent clubs Colchester United and Sheffield United with Parkhouse known to be on Celtic’s radar.

But Devine believes new recruit Nilsen ticks all the boxes ahead of the new campaign and said: “He has a high pedigree.”

Devine continued: “He's a technical finisher, a powerful boy who is good in the air and he’s also a fox in the box. He will be a brilliant addition.

“No 9s are very difficult to come across, not just here in Ireland but in the UK and there is a lot of money splashed about the place trying to get a goal scorer.

“We still have a few more players to bring in over the next few days but the work we have done so far is brilliant.”
