Derry City boss gives brilliant reaction to Gareth Deane wonder save

Derry City boss Ruaidhrí Higgins was left purring at Gareth Deane's wonder save against Cliftonville.

Deane celebrated signing a new long-term deal with the Bannsiders by producing an outstanding stop to deny Reds defender Jonny Addis.

The point-blank reaction save helped Coleraine claim a point at the Showgrounds and stretch their unbeaten run to 16 games across all competitions.

Derry boss Higgins was co-commentator on BBC Sportsound's radio coverage of the game.

He said: "I kid you not, that's one of the best saves I have ever seen live at a game of football.

"Honestly, that's a world class save. It looked goal-bound.

"I can't believe what I've just seen to be honest with you.

"What a save that was. My God."

Reflecting on he save at the final whistle, Higgins added: "Maybe I am overreacting, but that was one of the best saves I've seen live at a football match.

"I might have to see it back to confirm it, but at the time it looked an absolutely unbelievable save and he has helped his team get a point here."

Coleraine hit the woodwork while Deane produced his stirring save as the game finished 0-0 amid awful conditions at the Showgrounds.

The Reds now hold a three-point lead at the top of the Premiership, while Coleraine remain third - four points adrift of the Reds.
