Derry City 2-0 Cork City: Candystripes finally get win over City

Derry City finally removed the Indian Sign hanging over them since March 2016, after defeating Cork City at the Brandywell last night.

And the man who played no small part in the victory was former Cork midfielder Barry McNamee – who was at the heart of everything good about the winners.

City led 1-0 at the break through Eoin Towell after dominating the first half, though the visitors improved in the second period with Derry hanging on at times.

Jamie McDonagh missed a penalty for the Candystripes after McNamee was bundled over by Conor McCormack, an incident which saw McCormack receive a second yellow.

But the home side did have the final say as the game entered the final minute.

Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe missed a superb chance to put the game to bed but McDonagh made amends for his earlier missed spotkick after being set up by Ciaron Harkin.
