Derron Smith signs with Vikings after stint in AAF

Former Cincinnati Bengals safety and AAF star Derron Smith will sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

Smith looked like a guy the Bengals should pursue given his history with the team and breakout play in the AAF, which has since shut down.

We suggested the idea, but it turns out Smith will end up with old Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. He’s one of the latest former safeties to go there after George Iloka found himself with the Vikings, too.

It was a fun theory the Bengals might have an interest in one of their former players. But standing still here isn’t the worst thing and the team has made it pretty clear they aren’t done in free agency if something comes up.

The Bengals had free-agent offensive tackle Jordan Mills in for a visit most recently.
