Derrius Guice will be the Redskins’ biggest X-Factor in 2019

The entire outlook for the Washington Redskins’ 2019 season is based on ‘what-ifs.’

What if rookie QB Dwayne Haskins turns out to be dominant? What if the offensive line can stay healthy? What if Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis can stay healthy?

Arguably the biggest question mark going into the season revolves around the backfield: What if Derrius Guice is all he’s cracked up to be?

The second-year back was generating a lot of buzz throughout training camp last year, but it all came crashing down when he tore his ACL in the first week of the preseason. What if he can return to the dominant rusher we saw at LSU?

If that happens, the Redskins will succeed.

Bleacher Report rated Guice as the Redskins’ biggest X-Factor this season, and it’s not hard to see why. In college, Guice was a dynamic beast out of the backfield, exploding for 3,074 total yards and trucking his way to 29 touchdowns in three years.

Assuming that Adrian Peterson can remain productive—another what if—then pairing Guice with the standout veteran can be a dangerous combination that other teams in the league struggle to figure out.

There are a lot of things that can go right, or wrong, for the Redskins this season. The emergence of Guice could be the biggest one.
