Derrius Guice named possible fantasy football breakout in 2019

It was only a matter of time before Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice started getting major hype as a fantasy football player in 2019.

Guice is fresh on the comeback trail from an ACL tear suffered during his rookie season. Adrian Peterson hopped into the lineup on short notice instead and rumbled for 1,000-plus yards.

Though Peterson is back, fantasy experts still see Guice making more noise.

Jeff Ratcliffe of Pro Football Focus tabbed Guice as a possible breakout:

Last season, we saw Adrian Peterson fare surprisingly well with over 1,000 rushing yards on 251 attempts. There’s no doubt that Guice offers more upside than a late-career Peterson, but the question is whether or not he sees that sort of volume. Those uncertainties are baked into his ADP, which Guice could easily outplay if he sees a feature workload in 2019.

Hard to disagree here. Peterson put up good numbers last year but had visibly lost a step, had to run behind a makeshift line battling injuries and also had to fight stacked boxes because of an ineffective passing game.

Provided Guice has had a normal recovery to date, he’s bound to get in the lineup and start having a big impact, especially if Trent Williams and the line up front is healthy, too.

Redskins fans already knew this but it’s clearly worth saying again — Guice is a solid fantasy pickup in drafts over the summer.
