Derrick Willies tore ACL in Thursday’s practice

Derrick Willies showed enough over the summer to earn some first-team reps in training camp. Now the wide receiver will spend the next several months trying to build back up to that status after tearing his ACL in Thursday’s practice session.

Willies has been on the Browns’ practice squad after failing to make the final 53-man roster. He was injured during a special teams drill on Thursday, according to coach Freddie Kitchens.

“Unfortunately, Derrick tore his ACL yesterday,” Kitchens said. “He has to rehab. He is in good spirits and really ready to start his rehab.”

The second-year pro got some time on the active roster in 2018, catching three passes for 61 yards. He has been replaced on the practice squad by rookie QB Eric Dungey.
