Richard White, the father of starting Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White, has become a staple of Celtics Twitter (or whatever people call that corner of NBA social media these days) since his son was dealt to the team.
Boston fans regularly enjoy his insights on how the Celtics are playing, and what narratives don’t have a basis in fact, putting things into context when a segment of the fan base gets nervous. But it’s not just the fans who have benefitted from the elder White’s close eye on Boston’s play. Derrick himself has leaned into his father’s counsel on how the Celtics have been playing.
And when Richard told his son how his 3-point shot was looking good of late, Derrick leaned into the advice in a big way vs. the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.

“He texts me all the time,” said the younger White of his father after the Jazz win via Heavy’s Mike Thomas. “He said something about last game about the 3s looking better.”
“I said I’m just going to let it fly, so that’s just what my mindset was. Just let it fly and don’t think about it. I was able to knock some down,” he added, without a touch of hyperbole.
If 7-of-11 from deep is “some” 3-pointers, we’re ready for the game when White knocks down “a lot” of them.
