DETROIT _ With Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson out with injuries, Detroit Pistons coach Dwane Casey shuffled the starting lineup Monday night against the Indiana Pacers.
In was Luke Kennard and out was Bruce Brown.
But after a tough night, the Pistons' most electric player came through in the clutch.
Derrick Rose, suffering through a 4-for-16 shooting night, got a layup to fall with 28.3 seconds left, the winning basket in a 96-94 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
The Pistons (2-2) get their first win of the season at Little Caesars Arena and a second victory over the Pacers (0-3) five nights after a season-opening victory at Indianapolis.
Andre Drummond scored 18 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and had two blocked shots, but it was two bench players who were surprising factors.
Christian Wood, who made the team with his play in preseason, scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 22 minutes.
Brown scored 11 points on 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range.
The Pistons led by 12, but the Pacers took a 94-90 lead with 1:42 remaining on a T.J. Warren 3-pointer.
Kennard (14 points) made a 3-pointer, but the Pacers then had two unsuccessful possessions.
Rose got into the lane and the lefty layup curled in the basket, causing the sparse Monday night crowd to erupt.
The Pistons forced two Pacers misses on the next possession, but the door was left open for the Pacers when Kennard split two free throws with two seconds left.
Pacers coach Nate McMillan called timeout to set up a play, but Warren's corner 3-point attempt against two Pistons defenders didn't come close.
The Pistons committed 23 turnovers, which led to 20 points for the Pacers.
Domantas Sabonis scored 21 points for the Pacers, Warren added 19.
Casey was reluctant to adjust the starting lineup this early in the season.
But with two starts sidelined in Griffin (left hamstring, knee) and Jackson (back stiffness), Casey made the call to start Kennard.
