Jan. 02--Derrick Rose missed his second straight game with right hamstring tendinitis Friday.
"He still has some soreness," coach Fred Hoiberg said. "He's better than he was the other night. But he still has soreness. We'll be cautious with it, like we always are. He has made progress from where he was the other night."
Rose had posted back-to-back, 20-point games for the first time this season before this injury.
The Bulls face a Knicks team that defeated them last month at Madison Square Garden, prompting Jimmy Butler to say Hoiberg needed to "coach harder" and creating storylines filled with off-the-court drama.
Hoiberg and players have called the ensuing period, in which the Bulls have gone 3-2 and played more competitively, a period of growth.
"I think it's just the ups and downs of a season," Taj Gibson said. "We're a team where guys strive for greatness, guys strive for the right things. We have a good team. We understand we have a good group of guys who are capable of winning a championship. It's frustrating when you lose games to teams that aren't that good. Things can be said. It's frustrating because we got a lot of guys on the team who put in work."
Butler also is listed on the injury report with a left thigh strain, though he's playing.
