Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has dominated at his position at every level he’s played, and has earned a number of honorary titles over the course of his career, from Heisman Trophy winner to NFL rushing champion. Depending on the outcome of the offseason, he may be able to add “man who ended the Patriots dynasty” to the list.
Henry clinched the NFL rushing title in Week 17 with a 211-yard performance, and he was similarly unstoppable on the ground in Gillette Stadium on Saturday. Henry got a season-high 34 carries and rushed for a Titans playoff record 182 yards against the vaunted Patriots defense, along with a single reception for 22 yards.
Henry’s most important run of the game came on a 1st-and-10 with just 2:08 remaining in the game, when he effortlessly plowed ahead for 11 yards and another first down, ensuring the Patriots offense would only have a few seconds left to try and mount a comeback. Tom Brady’s ensuing pick-six then sealed the game, sending the Titans to the divisional round to face the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens.
