Dermot O'Leary opens up about fatherhood and urges hopeful parents to never give up

Dermot O'Leary has shared an empowering message with hopeful parents as he opened up about his journey to fatherhood.

The 47-year-old television presenter and his wife Dee Koppang welcomed their first child together on June 23, 2020.

Since bringing home their bundle of joy, Dermot and Dee have been enjoying their venture into parenthood and making the most of their blissful little bubble.

They have also proudly unveiled their son's name as Kasper Koppang O’Leary.

However, their efforts to start a family were not easy and prior to welcoming Kasper, Dee even spoke about the “rocky road to get here.”

Speaking to The Sun about becoming a first time dad, Dermot urged hopeful parents to remain positive about starting a family.

"Don’t lose hope,” he told the publication.

“Just keep going and you’ll find resolution one way or another, whether it’s through adoption or IVF or whatever.

"Because if you really want to be a parent and you want to bring a kid up in a loving, nurturing and supportive household, then you should do your utmost to do so.

“And I know it’s very easy to say these things, because none of that is science. But there are always ways.”

Dermot and Dee are yet to open up about what they referred to as a 'rocky road' but the television presenter said he was proud of how his wife had spoken about her pregnancy so far.

He added: “I’m very proud of her. She’s been brilliant and I’m sure she’ll write about it eventually. I’m just so proud of how she’s gone about talking about it, and the fact that it’s resonated with people has been really touching.”

Since tying the knot, Dermot had mentioned his hopes of starting a family with his wife.

In 2015, he told Fabulous Magazine : "I definitely want kids, but I've got a very busy wife with a very busy life.

"It's not fair for me to say, 'I want kids now'. I do want kids with my wife, but I want them when we both think it's the right thing to happen."
