Dermot O'Leary admits he 'doesn't really know' This Morning co-host Alison Hammond

Dermot O'Leary has admitted he and his co-host Alison Hammond are still getting to know each other on This Morning.

Dermot appeared on the show today to speak about his new children's book with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

As the interview continued Phil asked him: "How are you enjoying your Fridays?"

Dermot took over hosting the show on a Friday along with Alison Hammond in January, replacing longtime hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

Dermot and Alison have had mixed reviews from viewers since their takeover, with some suggesting there isn't much chemistry between the pair.

Today Dermot answered Phil and said: "I'm having the best time.

"It's the most fun, Alison and the crew are great and there's so much food."

But Dermot admitted that he and Alison were still getting to know each other.

He said: "We are still getting to know each other really, we've known each other for 20 years but not well.

"We're still feeling it as we go, but I'm having the best time."

Last week Alison also confirmed that her and Dermot were still learning about each other.

On Friday's show Alison was chatting to show guest Lizzie Gee and her son Rufus, eight.

Rufus and his mum took up tap dancing in lockdown, and Rufus said that it had helped the pair bond over the past year.

Alison said: "I am actually speechless at how good at tap dancing you are, because I actually did tap dancing when I was a kid."

And then Alison made a comment about her and Dermot's relationship.

She said: "It's just a really nice thing to do isn't it, to bond? And I feel like me and Dermot, we still need to bond."
