Dermot Kennedy raises whopping €200,000 for Irish charities

Dublin singer Dermot Kennedy has raised over €200,000 for Irish charities after playing four sold-out shows at Dublin's 3Arena earlier this month.

The Rathcoole native shared his delight on social media, informing fans of the impressive amount they helped him raise for Focus Ireland and Pieta House.

The Giants hit-maker took to Instagram to thank concert-goers, writing: "This will help so many people who need it. It may even save some people.

"Thank you so much for playing your part. You raised all this money from buying tickets and donating, I just facilitated it.

"Our country is small but mighty, and when we come together special things happen."

Dermot also played a street gig in New York City, with proceeds going to MusiCares. He surprised fans with a special busking performance at Washington Bush Park which was live streamed on his TikTok and Instagram accounts.

The musician was initially only supposed to play two gigs in the 3Arena, but split them into four shows with reduced capacity due to Covid concerns.

Earlier this week, Focus Ireland praised Dermot for his charitable efforts by sharing a touching video on their Instagram account, which showed the singer meeting Focus Ireland Ambassador Scott Buckley, who has experienced homelessness in the city.
