Dermot Gallagher delivers penalty verdict on Connor Goldson 'handball'

Steven McLean was quite right to ignore Celtic's claims for a penalty during their loss to Rangers on Saturday.

The referee waved away loud shouts from the Hoops players after Connor Goldson appeared to handle the ball.

However, the Gers defender was on the deck while the ball struck him.

The incident wasn't checked by Greg Aitken on VAR, despite the strong protestation from those in green and white.

And former top Premier League official Dermot Gallagher believes McLean was spot on with his decision-making.

He told Sky Sports: "It can't be a penalty can it? He's fallen back, breaking his fall. His arm is clearly on the floor. It strikes him, there's no doubt about it.

"But you see the players' reaction. They don't even appeal because they know now that that's what the law is."

Michael Beale's side won the game comfortably 3-0, in the end, thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell, John Souttar, and Fashion Sakala.

It was the first time that the Hoops had lost to the Light Blues this season.

Meanwhile, Former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha's club has been rocked by a player's admission of match-fixing.

Red Bull Bragantino defender Kevin Lomonaco confessed to being purposely booked against America in November.

Lomonaco was one of four players who confessed to the Public Ministry of Goias to have participated in a match manipulation scheme.

The crime could see offenders sentenced to six years in prison but the players involved were offered a non-prosecution agreement, UOL Sport reports.
