Derelict land in North Kelvinside earmarked for new apartment block with rooftop garden

Vacant land near North Kelvinside is being looked at as the location of a new apartment development giving residents to illusion of 'living in the park'.

The former site of North Kelvinside Parish Church on the corner of Kelbourne Street and Queen Margaret Drive, could welcome 39 apartments with a private rooftop garden.

The two and three bedroom flats, dubbed the Botanic Apartments, will be built over seven floors and include basement level parking.

Each apartment will have a balcony and have access to two rooftops to give the feel of 'living in the park'.

The development takes up a corner of land containing and outdoor play park but lies outside of the West End conservation area on land last occupied by a church before its demolition in the 1980s.

A design document submitted with the application outlines: “Acknowledging the site’s prominent corner location and gateway to the West End Conservation Area, development will improve visual amenity, safety and security within the park and reactivate the streetscape.

"The existing derelict site will be cleared to facilitate the creation of a reinstated street edge and a vibrant, dynamic development promoting liveable urban density.”

The application is due to go before Glasgow City Council.
