Derelict EK building on fire in late night blaze

A derelict building in the Murray was on fire on Monday evening.

The abandoned building across from Kwik Fit on the Murray Road was ablaze just before 8pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where a passer-by believes youths are to blame.

They told the News : “My brother and I were passing the abandoned building around 8pm on Monday night.

“My brother called the fire brigade.

“There was a group of youngsters kicking about the area, I wonder if it was them who set the building alight.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.52pm on Monday, November 9, to reports of a building fire on Murray Road, East Kilbride.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews worked to extinguish a fire within a derelict building.

“There were no reported casualties.

“Firefighters left after making the area safe.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
