Derek McInnes to Hearts on hold with Ann Budge on holiday

Hearts of Midlothian's plans to unveil Derek McInnes as their new manager have been put on hold until chairwoman Ann Budge returns from holiday.

The Tynecastle side have agreed a deal with Kilmarnock after activating a six-figure release clause in his Rugby Park contract.

Terms have been agreed between all parties, with McInnes due to meet most of the Hearts board tonight.

Speaking to the press, however, the 53-year-old confirmed that he will remain at Kilmarnock for their final two games of the campaign, including Sunday’s final game against his new employers.

Likely to be unveiled early next week, the reason for the delay is a need for chairwoman Budge to rubber-stamp the move when she returns from an overseas holiday in Greece on Friday.

“I think sometimes these things come along in life and I've always been open with the club,” said McInnes.

“I'm really enjoying my time here and until such time something maybe can make you think twice about that, about maybe trying something else, you just concentrate on the job at hand.

“I was informed yesterday that the club's had reached agreement and talks are ongoing with that.

"But I've also reiterated to the club today that I intend to be here for the last two games and I need to make sure that that message is loud and clear to my players, to everybody: we deal with what's in front of us now  – and we can pick up on the week after.”
