Derek McInnes relishing unfamiliar Aberdeen dilemma as boss weighs up rare decision

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is facing an unfamiliar selection dilemma.

The Dons have been ravaged by injuries this term but the manager has now welcomed a rare midfield reprieve.

All five of his central midfielders are available for selection as Aberdeen bid to oust Motherwell from third place and await a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.

Funso Ojo, Craig Bryson, Dylan McGeouch , Lewis Ferguson and Dean Campbell are now all in contention for starting places.

Ojo and Bryson, in particular, have been dogged by fitness issues with the latter undergoing surgery in January.

McInnes' side head to Motherwell for a crucial clash on Friday and, for once, he has big decisions to make.

“It is the midfield I wanted at the start of the season," he told the Evening Express .

“Although we got McGeouch in January, truth be told I tried to get him in the summer as well.

“We are beginning to see the benefit of having these midfielders available now.

“We have a proper midfield which has helped protect the defence and we have been more controlled with our possession.

“McGeouch, Ojo, Ferguson, Bryson and Campbell … not only are they proper midfielders, they all know their roles within the team – rather than defenders or wingers having to be shoehorned in and asked to do a job.”
