Derek McInnes relishing SFA hearing and declares 'I've got a few things to say'

Derek McInnes insists he's relishing his date with the SFA because there's a few things he wants to get off his chest.

The Aberdeen boss was sent to the Hampden stand for reacting to sectarian abuse from Celtic fans during his side's Scottish Cup semi-final defeat earlier this month.

McInnes was later charged with "misconduct" by the governing body and has until Thursday to respond, with a hearing set for Friday, May 3.

He initially believed he was wrong to react to chants of "sad Orange b*****d" and looked set to accept a punishment.

But a bullish McInnes has now told the Evening Express : "I am actually looking forward to the hearing and hearing what has to be said. I have a few things I want to say myself.

“On the day, I was disappointed I reacted.

“There have been other instances when managers have reacted and there have not been sending-offs or hearings.”

McInnes followed assistant Tony Docherty into the stand on a miserable day at the national stadium.

The Dons No.2 accepted a one-match ban for his half-time dismissal, which he served during the 1-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Dom Ball and Lewis Ferguson were also sent off as the Hoops dished out a 3-0 drubbing but their manager has rejected criticism of his side's discipline.

McInnes added: "I know we have been criticised for lack of discipline (in the semi) but for me Tony Docherty did little wrong and Dom Ball did little wrong for that to be deemed a red card.

“The ones who lost our discipline was myself and Lewis. Nobody else.

"We have had a fantastic disciplinary record here over the last six years so for people to question that is really disappointing.”
