Derek McInnes rages at officials as Aberdeen boss swerves post-match media duties

Angry Derek McInnes confronted referee Don Robertson and linesman Douglas Ross on the pitch after Aberdeen's stormy 1-1 draw with Hibs.

The Dons boss was left fizzing after Curtis Main and Lewis Ferguson were both sent off as the points were shared at Pittodrie.

Sam Cosgrove's header earned a share of the spoils after Ryan Portoeus' opener and McInnes didn't speak to the BBC after the game, instead leaving it to assistant Tony Docherty to deal with the media duties.

Docherty admitted both he and the manager were left fizzing at the red card decisions and despite the on-field criticism of the referee, they hadn't had the opportunity to seek answers because the whistler and his assistants were still locked away.

Hesaid: "I’ve not watched them back, my impression is - especially with the first one - is that the Hibernian player makes a hell of a lot of the challenge,

"I thought Curtis Main won the ball so I’d question whether that was a sending off as I did with the second one as well I thought it was really unfair.

"I can’t say for definite but my impression was they were extremely dubious, particularly the first one.

"Not at the moment, the refs are still getting changed just now. Like I say, particularly the first one there was nobody more surprised than myself when he produced the red card.

"It was a full blooded challenge by Curtis Main. He’s a combative player and then he definitely got the ball. The reaction of the Hibs player made the ref make that decision."

Aberdeen were the better side after going a man down, although Hibs could been a couple of goals in front if not for the sub-standard finishing of Christian Doidge.

But Docherty reckons his side's mentality shows the job McInnes is doing despite the former Rangers midfielder being under increasing pressure from a frustrated fan base.

He added: "The one thing I’d like to talk about is our reaction to going down to 10 men. We’re 1-0 down at home, there’s a lot of question marks there in terms of personality and mentality. It was a reflection of the manager, there was a real inspirational period of the game where we could have gone on and won it. That’s down to the players mentality, not to give that up.

"That speaks volumes in terms of what the manager has put forward to make sure we’re always bang at it, we’re making sure we’re always for the cause and I think that showed in our performance.

"At 1-0 I don’t think a lot of people would have given us the chance to go and get something out of the game but you watched it. We’re down to 10 men but we galvanised, we brought on a couple of subs and we could have gone on to win it.

"I can’t speak for Hibs, you need to speak to their manager about being profligate in front of goal but that period of the game when some people would have said we were out of the game we were on the ascendancy."
