Derek McInnes promises Aberdeen fans that Scottish Cup success will come

Derek McInnes has vowed he WILL get his hands on the Scottish Cup one day.

But the Aberdeen boss will have to mount his side’s future challenges without skipper Graeme Shinnie as he is set to seal a move to Derby.

McInnes was left frustrated as the Dons again came up just short in the competition after losing their semi-final to Celtic.

As a player, the Pittodrie manager had to wait over a decade before finally winning the trophy with Rangers in 1999.

As a gaffer, it has been a six-year drought with the Reds after four attempts at St Johnstone.

But McInnes is adamant he will get to lift the cherished piece of silverware again as he said: “I will get there. I will get it. I waited long enough as a player and I’m sure I’ll get there as a manager. It is important for my club.

“Over the last six years, we have got ourselves into enough semi-finals and positions in finals to try and win it and make that step.

“No other club outwith Celtic have done that. That shows there’s a lot of good work getting done at my club. I have got a lot of good people doing the right things. It is not easy to sustain that over six years.

“If it was easy everybody would be doing it. But nobody else other than us have done it.

“But we have come up against very good Celtic teams and we have come up against afternoons like Sunday, which was tough.”
